“Waterborne polyurethane” is only the starting point

In technical discussions, PUD commonly refers to a polyurethane dispersion. The label “waterborne,” however, does not define a fixed hardness, durability level or surface effect. Selection still depends on polymer design, coat position, film character, ionic character, solids, substrate and the end-use test requirements.

Waterborne polyurethane selection

What does PUD mean?

PUD is the common abbreviation for polyurethane dispersion. FAST uses the term on public pages when the current product documentation identifies the material as a polyurethane dispersion.

Does “waterborne polyurethane” describe one fixed performance grade?

No. Waterborne describes the system form; final behavior still depends on polymer design, film character, surface effect, ionic character, formulation and application conditions.

Which current FAST model is explicitly identified as a top coat?

RU-6720. Its current TDS labels the model “Top Coat.”

Which current model is the polycarbonate-based matte product?

RU-6880. Its current TDS names it “Matte Polyurethane Resin (Polycarbonate)” and describes an aliphatic matte polyurethane dispersion.
